The village of Castiglione del Lago is located on the border between Umbria and Tuscany, within reach of the lake Trasimeno.
This is where the winegrowers association of 'Cantina del Trasimeno' and 'Duca della Corgna' produces its wines. The combination of traditional grapes and cutting edge cultivation and processing techniques delivers distinctive wines of high quality. Whilst the brand 'Cantina del Trasimeno' is focusing on the production of reasonably priced products, 'Duca della Corgna' is dedicating its efforts to the production of specialities.
Due to the formation of a winegrowers association, local wine growers are able to produce high-quality products at reasonable prices, whilst simultaneously limiting the production output per hectare.
Centuries of selection and evolution of local grapes have resulted in different ecotypes. One of these is the Gamay of Trasimeno, a grape that is able to tap the full potential of the climate and soil in this area and which delivers a wine that is unique in its concentration of colours and flavours.
This delightful wine with its lively, ruby-red colour will entrance connoisseurs with delicate hints of almond blossom and its well-rounded yet subtle flavour.
The blend of Sangiovese and Gamay grapes produces a full-bodied, characterful wine with hints of fruit and spices, followed by a dry, yet elegant bouquet.
This Gamay opens up new horizons! It will surprise you with its dark, ruby-red colour and win over real connoisseurs with its complexity and its abundance of fruit and spices.
